The Global Food Crisis and the EU Food Facility
(October 2009)
In 2008, the EU decided to commit €1billion for a FOOD FACILITY.
F&P Consulting Partnership has been involved in the formulation of the study
“Institutional responses by the UN System to the global Food price crisis and the EU Food Facility” aiming at analyzing
the coordination, synergies and implementation mechanisms put in place by UN agencies within the EU Food Facility.
A field visit to the Philippines has confirmed that projects under the EU Food Facility build on the comparative
advantages of partner agencies and respond to the needs of the Country.

Non State Actors National Forum - Supporting Civil Society in Vanuatu

Within the framework of the EU-funded Programme Small Grants to Support Non State Actors and Community-Based Organizations
in Vanuatu, a Non State Actors National Forum was held in Port Vila on September 22-23. The preparation of the Agenda, the coordination of the National Forum as well as the final reporting was entrusted to F&P Consulting Partnership.

Solar power for safe water and lighting
(July-August 2009)
15% of Vanuatu population depends on rainwater for drinking. In droughts and when volcanoes make rainwater very acidic,
drinking water becomes scarce. VANREPA has designed a project for a solar-powered
desalinator. The solar system will also provide energy for village lighting. A carefully designed tariff system for water and battery recharging together with
awareness-raising and entrepreneurship promotion activities
will guarantee project sustainability. F&P Consulting Partnership has helped VANREPA formulate a project proposal for funding.

IT Kids Club - A Way for Developing Young Talents
(May-June 2009)
The idea of an IT Kids Club has been developed by F&P Consulting Partnership on behalf of a group of parents of Luganville, Vanuatu, and
submitted for sponsorship to the EU-funded "Small Grants to Support Non State Actors and Community-Based Organisations"
Programme. Since kids attend either English- or French-speaking schools, the IT Kids Club will be
bilingual. The project will aim at linking to the One Laptop Per Child Programme.
If successful, this pilot module will be replicated using the same hardware and software.

Entrepreneurship: the Key to Sustainable Development - A Short Course on the Basics of Entrepreneurship
(February-April 2009)
A short course on entrepreneurship has been
designed by F&P Consulting Partnership
on behalf of VANREPA, for remote communities that will be reached by electricity.
A presentation of over 100 slides and a booklet take the audience step by step through the concept of entrepreneurship.
All slides will be transposed onto A3 paper for field trainings.
This new challenge aims at helping communities see things from a new perspective, spot and grab available opportunities and

Training workshop on the new M&E System for RPFS in the Pacific
(23-25 April 2008)
A three-day workshop is held on behalf of F.A.O. in Apia, within the framework of the Regional Program for Food Security, covering 15 countries and 26 projects, and addressed to all NPCs and PMs. In line with a true participatory approach, PMs involved in the pilot phase play an active role in many sessions, providing an extremely effective and useful evidence of the benefits of the M&E system.

Using the Internet as a monitoring tool
(April 2008)
On the occasion of the Regional Program Tripartite Review held by F.A.O. in Apia, Samoa, a final presentation is devoted to the viability of using the Internet as a monitoring tool. Three are F&P Consulting Partners’ proposed solutions: a descriptive website, an interactive forum (i.e.: a DGROUP) or a link to FIVIMS.

Survey of domestic markets
for copra oil and cake
(Dec. 2007)
A Rural Electrification Project using copra oil as biofuel is going to be implemented in Vanuatu,
sponsored by the ACP-EU Energy Facility.
A pilot unit with two main components, an oil mill and a power generator, is being built in Port Olry.
The mill will have a surplus of oil and cake for sale. F&P Consulting Partnership is helping assess, through a local survey, the market for coconut oil and copra cake.

Energy for rural Vanuatu
(May 2007)
The ACP-EU Energy Facility has provisionally selected four projects providing energy to some villages in remote islands of
Vanuatu. PENAMA, MALAMPA and TORBA Provincial Councils
as well as one NGO, VANREPA, were asked to prove their eligibility.
F&P Consulting Partnership has provided assistance from formulation up to this final
phase.
The outcome will be known in July 2007.
